Terms of Service
Last updated: July 2026
1. The service
FreeOpenAPI.dev ("we", "us") provides a hosted JSON API that aggregates third-party open data sources (see Data sources). By requesting an API key or using the API, you agree to these terms.
2. Plans & billing
The Free plan requires a verified email address and is subject to the published daily rate limit. Pro and Business are monthly subscriptions billed through Paddle.com, our merchant of record, who handles payment collection, sales tax/VAT and invoicing. Subscriptions renew automatically each month until cancelled; you can cancel at any time via the link in your Paddle confirmation email, after which your key reverts to the Free plan at the end of the current billing period.
3. Acceptable use
Don't exceed your plan's rate limit by creating multiple keys or accounts to work around it, don't use the API for unlawful purposes, and don't resell raw upstream data as a standalone data product in competition with the upstream providers themselves. We may suspend keys that abuse the service or the upstream providers' own fair-use policies.
4. Data accuracy & availability
Data is sourced from third-party providers and is provided "as is", without warranty of
accuracy, completeness or availability. Upstream providers can change or go offline at any
time; we do our best to detect and report this via upstream_unavailable
errors and the status endpoint, but we can't guarantee
uptime. Don't rely on this API for safety-critical, medical, financial or legal decisions.
5. Changes
We may change rate limits, add or remove endpoints, or update these terms. Material changes that affect paid plans will be communicated by email to the address on file.
6. Liability
The service is provided without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from use of, or inability to use, the API.
7. Refunds
Pro and Business charges can be refunded within 30 days | see our Refund Policy for details.
